FAQ

What is hande?

A terminal bookmark manager — it stores shortcuts to folders, projects, and URLs, organized into categories and subcategories, so you can jump straight there instead of retyping or remembering a path. The name means “Let’s Go!” in Shona.

Why isn’t hande on the AUR?

AUR account registration was closed to new sign-ups when this project needed one. This site’s own Arch repository (see Install) is a fully signed, prebuilt alternative in the meantime — arguably a better experience than the AUR anyway, since it ships a binary instead of building from source on every install.

Is it safe to add a third-party apt/pacman repo?

Only add repos you trust the source of. Every package here is signed with a GPG key whose fingerprint is published on the Install page — apt and pacman both verify that signature before installing anything, so an in-transit tampering attempt would be caught. The source code itself is also published and auditable on crates.io.

Is hande open source?

Yes, MIT-licensed.

I installed via cargo install before — do I need to remove it?

If you later add the apt/pacman repo, check that your shell isn’t still running an older cargo install-built copy sitting earlier on your $PATH (commonly ~/.local/bin/hande or ~/.cargo/bin/hande). Remove it, then confirm with which hande that it now resolves to the package-manager install (/usr/bin/hande).

Where do I report a bug or request a feature?

Send an email to me via the email address provided. It is shown inside the hande program in the interactive shell. So just do:

hande

You will see the email where you direct your mail. I could not place the email here to avoid email harvesters.
